This program is a stepping stone in the progression from camper to counselor-learning the skills it takes to be a camp counselor, staff member and a leader in your home, school and community! Many of our camp counselors came up through the LIT program and were offered positions working with our camp or other programs at Kids First Too!

Our Leaders in Training (LITs) help take part in our camp experience by participating in activities and helpful with campers during the camp day. LITs assist our camp staff with activities and begin to understand the responsibilities of working with children. Participating in this program will help teens feel confident in their knowledge, experience and leadership skills and be more confident decisions makers and leaders within our community. LITs are always supervised by staff when working with campers.

Much like a job application, the first step of the program is the application. It will help us to know you a little better, and put your gifts and skills into camp. Your application will be considered complete once the Google Form Application has been submitted by the teen with their 30 second elevator pitch video attached!

LITs will go on the two camper field trips each week to help engage and play with the children. If registration numbers permit, we will replace one of the field trips with a teen-only field trip focused on service or fun. This is a wonderful program for building teen leadership, confidence, service-oriented work and our next generation of staff. We look forward to building leaders this summer!

quotes
  • I just wanted to take a moment to let you both know what an incredible experience Daniel had this summer in the LIT program. He developed skills, refined others and learned a lot about himself during the 6 weeks he was an LIT. Daniel had only positive things to say about the people, the program, the choices and activities. Your approach with the teens was ideal and Daniel had a great deal of respect for the staff. He felt comfortable talking with you if he had any concerns or suggestions and was sure his voice was being heard. He was part of a true team and loved being a role model for the younger campers. Daniel is looking ahead and wants to complete the CIT program in the future, possibly another year of LIT too! We want to thank you for providing such a quality experience for young teens. There are few programs that offer everything a young teen needs and the LIT program is a gem. By combining instruction & education, opportunities for fun, spending time with peers, giving back to others and mentoring younger campers, you have created an inspiring blend. Thanks again for a wonderful summer!
